Adjusting to school here has been a hard trial in Lydia's life. So many mornings she didn't want to go, she was always dreading school, asking how many more days are left for the week, the month and school year. It broke my heart. The word home school came up in many private conversations with Tyson and I. Lots of families in our neighborhood home school.
It was a huge transition from half day to full day. It was a big deal to ride the bus and be gone from me from 7:30 a.m to 3:30 p.m. It was a new adjustment eating lunch at school. She went from having 2 recesses to only one. She no longer had half days during the week. She often told me her teacher was mean to the other children. She has some tough boys in her class for the teacher to deal with. She also told me how boring it was. That is when we implemented our 3 POSITIVE things a day. It helped.
I started volunteering once a week in her class, I write her notes in her lunch box and for a while I was taking her out of school for a short day once during the week.
But the only thing that really helped was time. It took time, lots of time to get used to all of the changes. We decided to keep her in school and to not attempt home schooling. It has taken her 2 plus months to really like her experience at school.
She is the top reader in her class.
She has made oodles of friends.
She lays out her uniforms each night in anticipation for the next day.
She comes home happy.
When I gave her the option to go to Chucky cheese with a friend (before they left the island) she chose school instead. That is saying a lot.
Her school participated in Dr.Seusss week.
Here she is on HAT day.
Crazy HAIR day!
I tried to get her to go to school with the straws in her hair but she turned that idea down quick. Ha ha.
And Crazy SOCK day.
Here is a closeup. We hot glued pom poms to these bad boys.
I'm proud of my girl. Moving is hard. Making new friends isn't easy. She loved her school in North Salt Lake and change is hard. But Lydia can do hard things and she knows that now. I've said lots of prayers in her behalf, I've prayed for her teacher and we pray together every day before we walk to the bus. I know that Heavenly Fathers is mindful of my little family, on this little island we now call home and I am so grateful.

I am so glad that she is finally liking school. As a parent it just kills you when your child is sad. I love Lydia's crazy socks.
