Team Hospital- Basketball

The hospital started a basketball league with a few teams and Tyson joined in with this fun gang one Saturday morning. He was the old man with the ankle braces. He called himself that....not me.

Lydia's buddy Matthew from school was there. He is a HOOT. He is always entertaining people with his dance moves. He was intrigued by Lydia's Heely shoes.

Old man still has it. He played a really good game..

This was a fun crowd to watch. It was not like any church ball he has played in years past....they were loud, lots of friendly yelling at the refs and each other....so fun.

His team managed to pull off the win in the last few minutes.

Soccer & Passionate People

I happened to hear that soccer was starting on base and after talking to Tyson and Lydia we paid the fee's, signed up and realized soccer shorts and shin guards were sold out all over the island. (Story of my life.) I found her some cute skorts to practice in. They work.

Things were going on as normal and then I come to find out that a parent group put this soccer club together at the last minute and didn't get approval from the Base. It turned into this crazy week of chaos. I had to attend a parent meeting with the CO. (Captain Andersen- head of Big Navy Guam) and people were fired up. They thought our league would be shut down. I went for the entertainment of it and because our friend Ben is the Jag (lawyer) and it was fun to see him in action.

They had to sign papers, get a board made, insurance figured out and background checks for coaches all things that should have been done but hadn't. They had to figure this out quick or else we would have to practice off base.

Anyways, this is all kind of boring. I was bored hearing about it all week....ha ha. But what it made me think is I was sure glad we have some passionate people in the world. We had some parents here who are wildly passionate about soccer and making this all happen. They were intense, heated, fervent in making this happen and I was sure grateful.

passionate:
showing or caused by strong feelings or a strong belief.
"passionate pleas for help"
synonyms:

It got me thinking about what I am passionate in life. If soccer hadn't been offered here it wouldn't have been the end of the world to me. I would have just  put Lydia is something else. I thought I was pretty passion-less for a while. Then I kept on thinking.

I am passionate after all.
I'm passionate about my husband and making ours a good marriage.
I'm passionate in my mothering.
I am passionate about the Gospel.
I am passionate in making sure my testimony is always growing.
I am passionate about reading to children.
I am passionate about teaching.
I am passionate about music.
I am passionate about nature.
I am passionate about learning.
I am passionate recording life.
I am passionate about lots of thing.

Tyson is passionate about lots of things in life and Lydia is figuring out what she is passionate about.  She strives to be the fastest kid on her team and that is something her Dad thinks is pretty darn great.

Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders & Globetrotters

The famous Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders came to Guam. Crazy right?
They did a Cheer Clinic for girls ages 5 to 17 and Lydia got to join in the fun. They did Zumba, did some fitness circuits and then learned some dance moves. It wasn't so much cheering but promoting health and fitness.

After the class they got to go around collecting autographs.

All the girls were super sweet!

This was the announcer. He is HUGE! We asked him all about his workouts, eating and it was entertaining. This guy could break every bone in Tyson's body but Tyson could outrun this guy by a long shot. Ha ha. He is 60 years old. Dang.

One week earlier we got to attend a Harlem Globetrotters game. It was very entertaining. The Navy takes good care of our entertaining needs.

Pretty sure Tyson wished he was out there playing with them. They are one talented team.

West Haven 3rd Grade Basketball Ball League

Jakes's city Basketball team made it to the Championship game this season. It was held at Roy Junior high and it was INTENSE! I love watching anyone I know play sports, but when it is my precious 3rd grade nephew who wanted to win sooo very bad....well, that just made it more intense for everyone.

This was the scoreboard with 39 seconds left.
They tied it.
And then with 17 seconds left on the clock....
Jake had the ball.
Passed it to Drake.
And they scored.
Here is Jake and Drake.

Proud Mama!
I think Scott cried  after the initial win. Awww.

Here is some footage of the last play of the game.
It is shaky and I left the camera on for a minute....but what can you do? Enjoy!

I got to drive Jake home and he slept over that night. His Dad had YM's and his Mom had to speak at a RS meeting. It was a hoot. We stopped and got slurpees and then I made him watch Witches before his bedtime.  He couldn't stop smiling and he kept telling him how it felt to be a champion.

Love that boy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
