Act 1 Run through

We had 6 rehearsals scheduled in a row this week. They typically go as follows:

Warm up voices & stretch (20 minutes)
Run through Act 1 (on this night)
Then listen to notes.

Notes are when the entire cast gathers to hears notes first from the music director, then the choreographer, the main director and lastly information from the stage manager. It can be a long process and a fairly boring one for Lydia. She is usually tired by the time they get to notes but she hangs in their with a coloring book and some snacks. I usually read a book discretely in the back row and then listen up and take notes if it concerns Lydia and then I take good notes.
  • The director liked how she plays with her hair and sometimes sucks on it. He wants her to keep doing that. Ha ha.
  • He wanted Lydia slow down on her run to Maria and come in behind the children, try to get in the circle from up stage and then move down stage her work her way in and they hug Maria really tight.
  • He wants Lydia to lay down and pretend she's going to sleep during the concert.

Courtney came to one of Lydia's rehearsals with me. She is soon going to be able to recite all of Lydia's lines and solo's.
I am finding this entire process fascinating. I am the only person/parent not in the show. Most of them are Nuns or chorus dancers. The director asked me if I wanted to be a Nun. I told him I had to think about it. I think it looks like so much fun and I like to be on stage, but this time I want this to be all about Lydia. I want to be there for Lydia. I especially want to be in the audience on opening night applauding for her, not standing back stage waiting for my own cue.
Maria is oh so talented. Her Mom came to watch her in rehearsal last night and she came up to pay a nice compliment to me concerning Lydia. I told her how much I love her daughter and that I think she is phenomenal. Wendy is always the first to show up to rehearsal and the last to leave, she had all of her lines memorized before any other cast member and she is in just about every scene. On top of that, once a week she brings the cast Jam and Bread. (Not to mention she has 5 children and also serves in the YW.) She is super woman!
The thunderstorm scene is way too much fun! They messed up a bit on choreography but they will get it down and it is going to be fabulous.
Lydia is slowly getting more comfortable with the Captain. They will have chemistry in no time.
I don't know him as well as Wendy but I do love hearing him sing and perform. He is a natural!
These are the dancers learning the Laendler. I watched the You Tube video that they were given. It is not an easy dance to learn. They have their work cut out for them.  It is going to be a beautiful scene.
This is the VonTrapp kids saying "So Long Farewell" during the end of the party scene.
With each run through Lydia gets more confidence.
Her little solo part.

This experience is making her grow and stretching her so much. I hoped it would be a good thing for her but it has exceeded my expectations so far.

I loved reading about this! I am personally so proud of Lydia, so I can only imagine how proud you must be! I love how you wanted this to be about her this time, and how you wanted to just be able to watch and be there for her. I think that's what our kids need more than than we know. I'm going to order tickets to come on July 2nd! :)
