I’m a little embarrassed and proud at the same time today.
The last time I updated my 72 hour food kits was when I lived in Utah, almost 3 years ago. The South Ogden Stake I lived in had bought ALL the supplies for hundreds of people. It must have been a huge undertaking. Our gym resembled a Costco isle and all I had to do was show up at the Stake Center one morning, pay a fee and walk down the lines and fill up my bags. It was so convenient and easy and then they sealed it up with those nifty machines, dated it and voila, I was good to go.
If you follow my blog you know we’ve had all sorts of crazy weather in Oklahoma. We do have plenty of food storage, but until now I didn’t have a quick updated system like this.
I decided to get myself in gear. I started right after General Conference. It took time but was fairly simple. I found a great list, saved some milk jugs and went to work putting them together.
This nice site, Foodstorage.net has lots of good information and this video showed me how to fill the milk jugs. I used this list as my shopping guide.
I think I’ll use spring General conference as my guide and update them each year. Good plan right?
I still need to tape them up and put a list of what is included and then they will be 100% completed.
Am I missing anything? Yes. We have lots of water. What else?
What do you do to be prepared when it comes to food? We own 3 Dutch ovens. I’ve thought of buying some supplies to use for those in case of an emergency,.. mmmmm, we’d be eating in style for sure, way tastier than Lipton soup right? I’ll get back to you on that one.
