What a weekend this was! I will get my thoughts down on paper while they are still fresh.
The day began a little more fun than usual, Tyson decided to come garage sale shopping with us. I loved having his company and a chauffeur. We hit about 7 or 8 sales, picked up Caden along the way, stopped by a park to play for awhile and then came home by lunch time.
Shortly after, Tyson headed off to work. I was exhausted, so I put the kids down for naps and took one myself. I woke up, checked the news and made the decision to get Caden home. His Mom is in New York and I told his Grandparents and Dad I’d have him home by 4:30 p.m. I left the house, called his Brother Keeler to make sure someone was home, he was still on the middle school bus and I could hear teenagers screaming and panicking in the background.
Tyson called me and told me he could see a wall cloud and some green hues. Which is a sign of tornadoes. At this point I should have turned around and gone home. I could see the sky too, and saw lots of rotations happening in the clouds. It was super creepy because they were just like the ones I’ve seen on storm chasers episodes.
The sirens weren’t on at this point.
My heart was throbbing. I felt pretty uneasy. I was in heavy traffic waiting to get on the freeway. I honestly didn’t want to be responsible for Caden if we were at my home and something bad happened. The thought of that made me sick and I just wanted him to be with his own family, so I kept on driving.
I drove like mad. Then the hail and rain hit. HARD! I couldn’t see a blasted thing. Lydia and Caden were enjoying it in the back sit and I hollered to Lyd to say a prayer and she did! We made it to the Taylors home. I ran Caden in, it felt like buckets of water were being dumped on me, I was drenched. Then I went back for Lydia, got her into the house. Sweet Grandma gave me some clothes to change into and we watched the news.
We were was safe. The tornado hit, right near the path where I had come from. Tyson called from work to make sure we were safe.
I waited for the storm to pass and then went to find Tyson and I followed him home. It took us 45 minutes to drive 4 miles. We saw lots of damaged tree’s and some power lines that were struck down. Tyson got rear ended in the truck, he was preoccupied with that and didn’t see much damage at all. Truck was fine, other car got it bad.
The roof across the street from my friends apartment got blown off, damage near the High school, library and splash pad. It was surreal to come home and see all those familiar places on the news, just minutes from where we live. Thankfully nobody died and only a handful had injuries.
This was clipped from the Norman Transcript….and stolen from Liz R.
The rest of our evening was an adventure too. Tyson had 2 tickets to go to the Thunder NBA game and I was supposed to go clean a hair salon with my friend.
I didn’t want to do either of those things. I had already risked our safety and word on street was we had more storms coming. Buuuuuut, we watched the news, talked it over with our friends and everything ended up being just fine. Tyson had fun at the game and the hair salon got cleaned.
I made it home by 11:10 p.m. and found this cute munchkin in her Daddy’s shirt, cuddling him on the couch. I love Tyson! I love her! I love having a family to be worried about. I know the Lord is mindful of us and I’m grateful all ended well.
Thanks for your calls, texts, messages, concerns…..we always feel your love on these wild and crazy weather days….and if you were oblivious that any of it was happening, that’s even better and we still love you too!
