Watercolor Intro

Our friends the Collin's were about to move away. Their stuff had already been packed and shipped and they were living out of suitcases. I decided that I would paint them a watercolor picture as a going away present.

I started painting just over a year ago. I wanted to try something new. I wanted to have something to occupy my hands when I had down time. I wanted to learn a new skill and to see if if I had any talent at all. Some people laughed at me, so I've kept it on the down low. I painted "in the closet" for a time being. Lydia has always been my biggest fan. She loves my art and she loves to paint along side me.

Anyways, back to the Collins. This was my first portrait.

I can't draw faces. It drives Lydia batty. I can draw little dots for eyes. Those drive her a little less batty. I'm not very good at hands either. But I have improved...a little. I'm working on it.

Ben & Mandi are leaving the island this weekend. I painted one for them as well. They have become good, good friends here.

When I had finished those I thought to myself, hey I want one of my family. So I kept at it and created this. Does it look like us? I think so.

Here are a few more pieces I did last year.
