Tyson was made a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. It happened on my Mom's birthday August 13th and she and my Dad joined us to witness this momentous occasion. (Lydia was at Lagoon with Andy Baggs and his girls.) He took another oath and then signed lots of papers.
His official title is now Lieutenant JG Goodrich.
I am so proud his him. He worked so hard in school. He attended the University of Utah and he earned his 2 years Masters degree is only a year and a half. The navy had strict requirements for his grades and he met everyone one of them.
The collegiate program that he was part of was tough stuff. Later on Chief Hall one of the workers in the Navy branch told him that 217 people applied for the same program and that he was of the 20 that got in.
After we took some pictures we picked Lydia up at Lagoon and then headed to Station Park and ate lunch with my Parents for Mom's birthday. We dined at Zupas. It was delicious.
The following day we had to head onto Hill Air Force Base so Tyson and I could get new military ID made that includes his new ranking. It was a quick process. When we were finished we drove off base and then right back on base ......aaaand Tyson got his first salute. We were all pretty giddy about it. It was a little experience we won't forget. After the fact Chief Hall told me that his first salute is usually typically done by a parent who is military and that they are supposed to slip you a special gold coin afterwards. Buuuut....like so many things in the Navy we had NO CLUE about this tradition.
I think I will call him Lieutenant from now on.
