Moving to Guam

I have been having constant and bizarre dreams about Guam and The Sound of Music. These two very different things are consuming my time and thoughts these days. If you haven't heard....you are now in the know. We are moving to Guam!

Tyson wrote a family letter to his parents and siblings. Here are a few exerts from his email.

First off, we know where we will be spending the next 3 years with the Navy.  Guam!  We are really excited about the opportunity and were glad to be able to pick it over a couple of the other options.  I had received an e-mail from the Navy which said to get back to them as they wanted to go over our first orders.  I was immediately curious as to what that meant.  Did that mean they already knew where they were going to post us?  Did I have any choices?  So I responded to the e-mail and asked if my assignment had already been made, to which a quick e-mail came back asking if I could talk on the phone right then.  So I talked to Lieutenant Commander McMahon who said there were 3 options for Healthcare Administrators (HCA’s) around the time I will be graduating from Officer Development School (ODS). The options were Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Twentynine Palms, California, and Guam.  He said that because I was the first to respond he would not let the other HCA graduates know the options until I notified him of our decision within the week.  So we felt extremely lucky hat we at least had some choice in the matter, and that we did not end up in Guantanamo Bay!  After a lot of prayer and consideration between California and Guam we finally settled on Guam, and could not be more excited about the opportunity.  What we know about Guam right now:  SMALL island (only 35 miles long), beautiful beaches, $2,000 + price tag for flights roundtrip (start saving now, we expect visitors!  J ), they’ve had brown tree snake problems, good on-base school, however, we’ll probably have to start our housing off-base, the natives are called Chamorro’s, heard they are some of the friendliest people there are, they love Americans, it’s in the middle of typhoon alley (just moved from tornado alley to typhoon alley, no big deal), typhoon season is in October right when we will be moving there, and the closest temple is Manila Philippines.  Since our decision we really have only heard good things about Guam which has been nice to get a little more peace of mind with each good story/experiences.

These photo's are all borrowed from google images.
I will be sure to take my own photo's once I'm in Guam. ;)

This is not related to Guam. But it is an article about Navy Seal training that was given at a recent University graduation. Read it! It's fabulous and it will turn your husband into a bed maker. ;) Now I'm secretly hoping that somewhere down the road we will get to meet a Navy Seal and hear even more awesome stories like these.
