Demo Derby

July 4th is such a wonderful holiday. We joined in on a new tradition this year.

In the ward I am currently living in the young women host a 4th of July breakfast. This was the 7th annual year....and man is it a great one. A LOT of work....but a success and it brings in quite a bit of money so that's a plus. Did I mention it was A LOT of work (I work in the young women's program)! :) Whew. I was glad when it was over.

It was a warm morning but we had lots of shade on the front lawn of the church so it actually was pretty nice.

Lydia asked for a picture of her and the American flag.
And another.
And another.
She was one happy girl this day.
She is a happy girl every day!

The second part of our day was in Ogden at the one and only Demolition Derby.
(The largest Demolition Derby this side of the Mississippi)
This is a long time tradition of ours and a goody.

I've tried describing it before.....but you really have to come and experience its goodness for yourself.
A look back. 2009 Demo Derby.
Tyson looks forward to this every year....or at least every summer we are living in Utah.
We stopped by the Hot Rockin 4th party.

We waited in line waaaaay to long to get this free balloon that popped before the day was over.
Ha ha....what we do for our kids. :)
We checked out the cars.
Then we met up with the Cole's family (minus Cru) and Phoebe Selman.
Jake LOVED the experience. He told Sarah on the way home: "Mom, that was the highlight of my summer."
It was hot day.
But totally worth watching all the heats of cars crashing.

These girls entertained each other and had a ball.
Not sure if they noticed the cars.
Crazy eyes!

They do one truck heat each year.
It is intense and probably should be banned.

One guy was hit so hard.....he waved for the other truck to stop and then climbed out the window and collapsed. He was taken out on a stretcher. Too intense for my liking. Tyson thought he might have had a spine injury after such a hard hit.

Another truck flipped right over.....seriously....the truck heat was nuts this year.
We were disappointed in the championship heat.
(Winner takes home 30 thousand.)
It didn't seem fair the way it ended.
We really need to learn more details about the rules.
Our fourth of July ended with a bang.
Literally.
And some of us enjoyed it more than others. :)
