I didn't want my very last day watching Caden to be doing this: me packing boxes and kids playing in boxes soooo .....I planned our very own Yes Day!
(Yes....we are back in Utah for a few years...more on that later.)
If you've read this book you know that a Yes day is an entire day where parents are more or less are required or choose to say YES! It was tricky at first. You quickly realize how many times you actually say NO as a Mom.
It started out simple. I let Lydia choose what she wanted to wear. You'll see plenty of her outfit. I let her choose what to eat for breakfast. She obviously isn't old enough to take advantage of this situation and she knew I would say yes to all of her requests.
We began at 11:00 a.m. We stopped at the Dollar tree and I let them both pick out something. They chose Mickey & Minnie puzzles. ( I needed a few other things as well.)
For lunch we stopped at Whataburger to use Lydia's library program free food vouchers.
Caden loves his ketchup...ha ha and we love watching him lick it up. It always makes me laugh and cringe a little too.
Man aren't these two cute as can be!
No, we didn't go on a shopping spree....but we did play on something inside the doorway.
I always say NO to these toys.. Lydia walked in, with a smile on her face and knew that when she asked me if she could on on it that I would say yes and I did.
We made so many stops....these munchkins became experts at getting in and out of their seat belts. It was HOT outside too.
I had a coupon to this place too and so we went in and played a few games and went mini bowling. They were very excited when we showed up here.
On our way back to Norman we stopped by this place. This has been a favorite play place for us. We have lots of fun memories here. We crashed a birthday party, but we knew a few of the people and they didn't mind us playing for a bit.
Lydia and Caden called this bounce castle their Rabbit cage. The Taylor's own two rabbits.
I walked by this and had to snap a picture. 6 months ago, we were at Journey Church. Can you already guess where this story is going? It was packed. It had Daycare/preschool kids, lots of families and a home school group was coming in right when the fire alarm went off. I quickly thought, oh my...whose kid did this??? Then I looked over and there she was, my daughter, standing next to the open alarm looking as guilty as they come.
I was mortified. I grabbed her. Sat her down with my friends and went running to the workers to tell them it was my daughter and a false alarm. They talked to the fire department, but they had a hard time figuring out how to turn it off.
It was LOUD. Lydia was scared of the noise and that was almost punishment enough. We had a nice 8 mile drive ahead of us and a long talk. She didn't know what it was and curiosity got the best of her.
The car needed a wash....yes, my YES Day turned into a few errands too. But I knew the kids would have a blast and they did.
We stopped in at Dad's work. That is always a favorite location.
My Dad's work had a candy jar growing up, Lydia's has a chair that spins. Woo hoo!
They wanted so badly to go to the park, but we had to stay indoors. It was much to hot outside. So instead we went home and put on Andy Alligator tatoo's.
It was a great day. The last page in the book the little boy is lying out on the lawn with his Dad and he asks,
"Dad, does this day ever have to end?"
Dad responds: "YES!"
Lydia was disappointed that it came to and end. But it ended and then we headed over to the Walser's for dinner. They ordered in Teds, a yummy Mexican restaurant that we all love. It was delicious....we visited, played games and had a marvelous time while are kids were in bed.
Lydia, Lillian & Samuel
The Walser's have been amazing from the beginning. They were among our very first friends we made and I know we will be friends with them forever.
Check out Yes Day by Amy Krouse Rosenthal at the Library or buy it here and stay tuned for next year....I have a feeling this day will become an annual event.
