Ba bye 112 degree's- Day 1

We do like Oklahoma but we couldn't get out of this state fast enough about 3 weeks ago. Tyson was just as cooped us as us girls were and it was his suggestion to take a trip to Utah to get relief from the heat. I can't explain it properly, but it is miserable not being able to go outside. We experienced a good 50 days with temps above 100 degree's and add humidity to that...whew! It had been a good 2 months since we have been able to actually enjoy the outdoors.

We packed the car in 110 degree weather and happily drove off in search of cooler climates.

19 hours in the car is nothing to us anymore. In fact we quite enjoy our road trips and we take a new route each time we go. This time was through OK, TX, Albuquerque, NM and then up and through some breath taking mountains in Colorado.

Tallest (new) building in all of Central America in OKC. My new brother-in-law Justin helped design it.

We drove right into a HUGE storm in Oklahoma that included lighting strikes, a forest fire, wind, lots of rain and thunder. It was brutal driving conditions but luckily only lasted just over an hour.

How does Lydia do in the car? She is my champ as not ONE word of complaint was ever uttered. I pack a square laundry basket all for her and place it next to her car seat. This time it included: silly putty, clip on earrings, glow sticks, a laser pen, books, her camera, a white board, powerful magnets, dolls, a clip board with paper, a harmonica, trinkets and a she gets a few other surprises along the way. She is an amazing traveler. She takes a nap in the morning and one in the afternoon, (only on road trips) sings, plays, looks out the window, listens to my IPOD, tells us stories and watches some 'DBD's. (That is what she calls them.) Ha ha.

We did her bedtime routine in the backseat and she went to sleep until we reached Albuquerque.

The first day our destination was to 'the beds,' our hotel. Try explaining to a 2 year old that you are sitting in a car all day long, on the way to Grandma's house, but end up at a hotel instead. We turned 'the beds' into a great place to look forward to and it worked!

I slept with Lydia that night (she takes up less space in a double bed than Tyson does) and while I was in the shower Tyson got in some snuggling too!

We rested up nicely for our second day of 12 hours in the car!

Wow what a trooper Lydia is. And it sounds like you were one prepared momma!
