First Day of School

My little miss finally started school. We were here on Guam for a few weeks before I enrolled her. We all needed some time to adjust and I wanted her to have lots of precious time with Grandma and Grandpa while they were here.

I prepped her as best as I could for school. We talked a lot about it. We went on a tour of the school with a super nice counselor who is actually from Bountiful, Utah. (The first person I've met from Utah.) I let her pick out all of her school supplies, they gave us a long list and it cost $74 in the end. Yikes. We slowly but surely found all 5 days worth of uniforms for her to wear. She is allowed to wear khaki, navy, black & white. I packed her a yummy lunch and have been putting notes in her lunch box.

I remember going to a new school when I was little. It was scary. I did it alone, without my sisters....and actually its a long story and I was a tad dramatic but my Dad had to come and help calm me down.

I didn't want Lydia to have a similar experience on her first day and guess what she didn't.

I took her on the first day and we found her class together and got her situated before I left. She came home with lots of good things to tell me.

The following day I pulled up in front of the school and she climbed out of the car and made the long walk inside and all the way to her classroom alone. My heart ached for her. I was nervous for her and in the meantime she was so cool with everything. All I kept thinking is, "Man, alive I have an awesome kid." She is way more capable of things at her age then I ever was. I am so impressed with her confidence, her ability to make friends and her cheery attitude.

This was the hotel/house we lived at for 26 days. It felt like home after a while. It was close to the school so I drove Lydia while we stayed there.
Her school here starts at 8:10 a.m. and goes until 2:40 p.m. They don't have short days and Lydia is finding her days and weeks long. Last week I instigated our very own short day. She is bright and on top of her work so it shouldn't be a problem. It will be good for me as well because I miss this girl like crazy. I wasn't prepared to let her go all day long. I love spending time with her.
She needed one shot record so we headed to the hospital and got that before kindergarten on her first day.
She thought her hair looked like Anna on Coronation day. (Frozen reference.) I love this fun girl of mine. She makes my life so happy.
