Meeting the Cast

We attended the first cast meeting/rehearsal and it was quite the experience. It was nice to walk into the Clearfield Arts building and not feel nervous.

We had to fill out a few forms. The cast introduced themselves by sharing their 'favorite things.' They played some clever get to know you games. Lydia was fitted for her costume and we learned lots of new information about this world we just plunged into feet first.

We learned more about the vision the director has for the show. He is the Clearfield Theater teacher. I loved listening to him. He said that he doesn't want us to watch the original movie or any other productions, especially the Carrie Underwood version. He wants this to be our production and to create something new altogether. He explained that if you pull any line from the script and read it that it will sound cheesy and he doesn't want cheesy or corny. He wants the characters words to be meaningful and real.

After we played a few more games then he had everyone do a read through. Mistake number one....I didn't have any food for Lydia. It was 8:30 and we still had an hour left to go. She was tired and hungry and I felt awful. It ended up being ok, she enjoyed saying her lines and listening to the cast read their lines. Lydia wished she had more lines to say during the run through and I took that as a good sign.

I think I was the only person NOT in the show. Most of the other parents got a roll as a nun. I am more than fine with that because I want this to be Lydia's thing and I am more than happy to be her 'personal assistant' and support her. I will defintely step up my game and make sure to bring snacks next time and get her into a nap schedule so she won't be sleep deprived. What was I thinking?! ;)

I think they did an excellent job casting all of the rolls. We were definitely rubbing shoulders with lots of talented actors, singers, choreographers, costumes designers, stage managers....etc. This is going to be fun ride and a lot of work!
