Audition Part 1 of 2

About a month ago Tyson mentioned that he saw advertisement for an audition for the Sound of Music. We both agreed that it might be a good experience for Lydia. We didn't get serious about it until about a 2 weeks prior.

Lydia needed a 30 second show tune to sing.
A resume.
And a head shot.

Choosing the song was the toughest part for me. I didn't want her to sing Tomorrow from Annie or Castle on a Cloud I wanted something to show off her memorization skills and a song that would help her stand out. After trying out a few we landed on "Its Possible" from Seussical the Musical.

It took me 2-3 days for her to learn all the lyrics. I taught her the first 60 seconds of the song just in case. She practiced for everyone that came into our home for about a week until she felt confidant.

Nathan came over for his birthday dinner one evening. We took her head shots and he edited them for me. We used the photo at the top of the post.

Her resume included some of this:

When the day of the audition came it was crazy. I had her outfit chosen, shoes, headband ready to go and then we dropped her off at a birthday party for about 30 minutes. I went home to get Tyson and we got distracted talking to my niece Kaneesha & her boyfriend who were at the house and we lost track of time for a moment.

Then we had to book it to pick up Lydia up from the Fellers and get to her to the audition on time. (We of course got stuck at a train crossing...only when were late.) Her appointment was at 11:20 a.m. and we pulled into the parking lot at 11:19. That is not how I like to roll when it comes to things like this.

I was so nervous. My leg was oddly shaking the entire drive. I had a huge knot in my stomach. Tyson looked like he was keeping it together but I know he was nervous too.

We checked her in, gave them her list of date conflicts and filled out a few forms. One of the questions asked if I'd be willing to dye her hair, cut it or grow it longer. Crazy right? I guess that's show business.

Lydia was nervous. She said it was a different kind of nervous than dancing or singing in church. I just wanted her to do well, to do her best because I had seen her best at home so many times.

She entered a small stage with 2 other girls (about 14 years old.) One girl went first and then it was her turn. She introduced herself and then started singing. The girls before her used the stage as she moved around a bit. Lydia thought she would try that too even though we had never practiced that. I could tell from the back of the auditorium that she had a few nerves showing through but overall she looked so great and sounded darling.

They cut her off after 25 seconds.

Tyson heard the director chuckle after her song and after we listened to the 3rd girl and then it was time to go. The director turned around to check us out as we walked out.

Her audition number was 118 and they still had 30 more minutes of auditions after us.

We were both so proud of Lydia. She did great for her first audition.

We treated her to Swig on our way home. Yay! Bountiful now has a Swig across from the Shopko.

The stage manager told us we would know if she got a call back by that evening via email.
Luckily we had a lot of fun to keep us busy while we waited for the results.

We cleaned the house after a week of having guests stay and then we went to my parents for a big family Easter Egg hunt and dinner.

The email came in after dinner around 6 and her name was on the list for a Gretl call back along with 3 other girls. I went outside to the trampoline to tell her and she was so happy.

I couldn't be more of of this girl!
