I am head over heels in love with the Olympic summer games. I love the tradition, the torch running, the behind the scene stories, the emotion, the celebrations, all the nationalities coming together and the amazing athleticism. What an opening ceremony that was last night. Who knew so many villans came from British literature? All of it was wonderful. I enjoyed it with Tyson, my parents and my two nephews Jake and Logan.
I am looking forward to watching some swimming, track, basketball, men & women gymnastics, diving, beach volley ball and more! I really do love it all.
I have met 2 Olympians before. They were in my ward in Norman, Oklahoma. Rustam & Guard.
I taught Rustam Sharipov's daughter Mya in primary. She was my little sweetheart and even invited Lydia and I to her 5th birthday party at the OU gymnastics training center. (See that here.) I also was good friends with his wife Amber. I served with her in the Primary for almost two years. She's amazing too, I look up to her so much.
Info: A native of Tajikistan who later moved to Ukraine, Sharipov was a member of the gold medal-winning Unified team at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona. In 1994, he won the silver medal on parallel bars at the world championships in Brisbane and bronze with the Ukrainian team at the world team championships in Dortmund. In 1996, he won parallel bars at the world championships in San Juan and at the Olympic Games in Atlanta, where he also won bronze with his team.
I visit taught Guard Young's wife in Norman as well and I got to see his silver medal! SO COOL! He competed in Athens and won a team silver! Wow!!!
This video is precious! Watch it when you have a minute and a kleenex.
Happy Olympic watching! GO USA and CANADA!!!!
