The flamingo was Lydia's most talked about animal on our latest trip to the zoo.
I read an article about them in the January's New Era, I thought about it as we passed by.
Do you know why flamingos are pink???
Answer: "beta carotene—a pigment that causes an orange, pink, or yellow color.
The article discussed the thought that what we 'feast' on changes how others identify us. In 2 Nephi 31:20, we are encouraged to “press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ.”
"If pink flamingos are any indication of good feasting, the opposite is also true. If flamingos don’t feast on the algae and brine shrimp they usually eat, their feathers will eventually become white—and we might not even recognize the white birds as flamingos!..... When we stop feasting on the word of Christ, we also slowly become spiritually ill and lose our bright, godly countenances. Eventually, we would no longer be recognized as a faithful follower of Christ."
Something to think about. Read more here.
It is always fun to learn something new and share animal info with Lydia. I realized I really don't know a lot of the answers she asks about the animals we visit. That needs to change....but.........blah, blah blah....now on to the good stuff.
The best part about our afternoon at the zoo wasn't that it was 69 degree's out and sunny, or that it was FREE but it was because Tyson came with us. It turned out to be a perfect day, if it had been our first date, I would have been head over heels with him. I came home exhausted, a little sun burned and more in love with my husband than before we left the house.
The baby Tigers, all 4 of them were my favorite! We watched them for a long time.
We are suckers for anything baby, the elephant & the one armed baby chimp were adorable too.
On our way home we stopped at the grocery store, ( his idea) I love when Tyson comes with me & then he offered to take us out to eat....another good thing about the day, no cooking or clean up. He knows how to win this girls heart, that is for sure!
