Happy Birthday to Daddy

For Tyson's birthday this year all he requested was a Banana Cream pie and no party. Is their a term for a birthday 'Grinch?' I argued that he shouldn't get a say on his birthday but his argument was it is "MY birthday....yes I should"....well, I respected his wish (this year)....he's not getting an option next year. Ha ha.

I still surprised him a "little" this year. Lydia and I woke up at 7 a.m. and got ready to go to Seminary. He thought I was a tending baby Guy who was coming at 7:30 a.m., so he had no clue. I had messaged all the kids to tell them to come AND be one time. We arrived and they were playing Tennis Scripture Mastery (a game Tyson made up months ago)...looked like fun.

I brought juice & muffins and had the lights off in his classroom with the candles ready to go....then remembered... CRAP, I don't think you're supposed to light candles at church, I didn't want to take pictures for evidence. Ooops!

We sang to him.....and then I told him about his birthday gift I put together for him. I handed out a few fun memories that his friends and family old, new, young & old had written about him and they were hilarious. He came home and read them all and for the next 12 hours after that the stories and e-mails kept on coming.

Here is one of them:

Way back in third grade, when I thought I was a decent sprinter, Tyson and I would have short races in front of Adelaide Elementary. We were pretty well matched back then, but we had different techniques in how we ran. I ran like an average human being with my arms bent at the elbows swinging forward and backward with each stride; Tyson however subscribed to the practice of not moving his arms at all. He would hang them down straight at his sides and wouldn't swing them at all, in defending his technique he would argue that he could run faster by doing that because he didn't lose momentum or energy by fighting the swinging motion of his arms. And that is why he would beat me. I am happy to say that eventually he did swing his arms and he could always outrun me in any sprint we contended in.

Happy Birthday Tys!!! Andy Hyde

This particular one had me rolling and Tyson does not remember this story so neither of us had heard it. Made me wonder what stories people remember about my childhood that I have forgotten.

I also brought ALL of his Woods cross High dance pictures and put them all over the kids desks to show them. They got a big laugh out of those. :) The kids here don't do the big dances like in Utah, asking in crazy ways, day activities, dinner, flowers, pictures, matching outfits, big dresses, dancing, after activities.....all this was foreign to them.

That evening for D\dinner we went to McAlisters. This was the first restaurant we ate at when we moved to Norman. In fact we pulled our moving truck in our parking lot, not even unpacked yet and headed to lunch. It was a super hot and humid day, we were nervous about this new adventure and well, we remembered this place had the best water & sandwiches. We even sat in the same booth.

Lydia sang a beautiful rendition, it went like this:
"Happy Birthday to Daddy........"Happy Birthday to Daddy, "Happy Birthday to Daddy, "Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaappy Birthday to Daddy" :)
