Seize the Day

Last year our Stake put on a production called Broadway in the Park for the first time. Each ward performs a musical selection with choreography, a small set, props....the whole shebang. I would have loved to be in it but wasn't able to. We went an hour early, had a picnic with friends and then watched the show.

Well it was such a success it has become an annual event. This year my friend and director of it last year approached in hopes that I would direct the number for our ward. I did not feel capable, I love to sing but my choreography skills are non existent. But I agreed anyhow, we found a choreographer (Candace) and for the last two and a half weeks it has consumed a lot of our energy and time.

We voted on a few songs and we are performing Newsies Seize the Day. I just watched the DVD yesterday, it has been a long time and it is a fantastic show! (It was never actually on Broadway....but they let it slide.) I absolutely love it. I paid close attention to the dances, costumes and music.....and WOW....I couldn't imagine putting on something so huge. Disney always impresses me. I was shocked by how many people in our group had never heard of it or seen the movie. If you've never seen Newsies, WATCH it!!!

Our 2 minute 6 second song has been a lot of hard work. We recruited 25 ward members, mostly couples, a few young men and some children. Some of my friends came over last week and sewed 25 RED kerchiefs to add to everyone's costumes. (Just like Christian Bale's....awwww.) I think they will look great.

This weekend we perform in the park in a huge amphitheater and then we are hitting the road with it and going to Ada, OK and will do the whole show at a Junior High for who ever lives in that city I've never even heard of.

Oh and for the grand finale we are singing Season's of Love from the musical Rent as a whole ensemble. Great song. Not my musical of choice. I hope we can pull it off.

Wish us luck!

Everyone did such a good job! I can't wait until you post a video of your performance!
