7.4.2010 {Fourth of July...almost a bust}

Our friends the Walser's invited us to their parents home up on the outskirts of Edmond to celebrate the 4th. We were going to do fireworks, I made the kids matching shirts, a yummy salad, strawberries.....and well it didn't happen, here is the story.

We were on the freeway on our way, it is about 45 mins away. It started to down pour, Tyson was a little nervous..it was bad, and then about half way we hit some horrible traffic and came to to a dead stop for about 15-20 minutes. Lydia became fussy, Tyson was frustrated and I tried to make the best of a not so fun situations. I tried to calm Lydia down by giving her her blanket...and right after I did she threw up all over! GROSS! We finally started to move again, a huge semi had crashed into a car, lifted them up the median, crushed it and the truck spilled over with boxes of toilet paper everywhere. Crazy!

We sadly, turned the car around and drove home. No party, no barbecue & no friends.

Poor little lamb.

We bathed Lydia, I did laundry while my Tyson busted out the George Forman and grilled some hot dogs and attempted to make me homemade french fries. (In his describing words they were nasty, but I thought he was sweet and ate them anyways.)

Then we spent the rest of the evening watching Office re-runs, season 3. We thought we heard fireworks around 10, we ran outside, could hear them but couldn't see any. Boo.
The city of Norman canceled their show due to rain.
Happy Fourth of July!

The next day Samuel came to play, so I snapped a few in their shirts.
(Her stomach bug was all gone.)

Luckily the city of Moore OK, 10 mins north of us re-scheduled their firework show for Monday night. We went to it and ended up running into some of our good friends, so it turned out to be a good night and it felt like July 4th after all.

It was HOT and HUMID...that is why we are glowing.

Last year Lydia was NOT a fan of fireworks, she cuddled me under a blanket. I was sure things would be different this year, nope. She cuddled me again and out of fear closed her eyes, wouldn't even look at them. Then she fell asleep. :) Silly girl. Tyson told me he also hated fireworks as a child.

I have lived 12 years of my life in Canada and almost 15 years in the United States. I am still a Canadian citizen but am very grateful for the freedoms both Countries give us!

PS. Here are the yummy strawberries I made.

Cute pictures. I'm so sad you weren't able to make it to our little barbque - but I'm glad you saw some fireworks the next day. And I love the picture of Lydia giving Samuel a kiss.

oh, sad day! I hate it when my kids throw up in their car seats, so not fun at all...I hate it when they throw up at all, cause I feel so bad for them, but car seat are especially not fun! The joys of mother hood! And those strawberries looked SO DANG GOOD!
