We, the Norman Stake were blessed to have Elder Russel M. Nelson in our midst last week. He came to our ward building for Stake Conference and we were all advised to get there early and walk if at all possible.
He spoke for an hour that passed by too quickly for my liking and at one point he invited all the children to stand up and sing I am a Child of God with just him. My eyes were not dry and I'm sure many others could say the same. It was pretty special. I could feel his love for each of them. Lydia knows this song, we sing it everyday. The theme that I noticed in his words to us was Teaching Our Children.
I know that some of you are also young moms so I thought I'd share just some what he taught us. Here it is:
Teach your children....
...that they are children of God. Help them learn their divine nature.
...about their bodies. (Their eyes, how they dilate, their ears, their heart beat.)
...to take care of their bodies...to keep it clean always.
...to pray to their Father-in-Heaven. To converse with Him with ease.
...about the life and
...to love as He loves.
...the ordinances as He did.
...what it means to be anointed and the meanings behind the titles given to the Savior.
Read from the scriptures. Give them the straight stuff.
Help them understand the priesthood and its restoration.
...to be worthy of the Temple.
...to pay tithing and they will qualify for ALL of the blessings.
...to be wonderful missionaries.
Correct them the way the Lord would, privately and quietly. Never spanking.
Praise your children publicly. It will give them the confidence they need.
I am so thankful for all the opportunities in my life I have had to learn from apostle's and prophets. I know they are men of God here on the earth to lead and guide us and I know that if we follow what they say we cannot go astray.

Both Carlin and I were crying too - it was so special and Samuel even sat still for that part. Thanks for writing all that down - I took some notes but I think I missed a few.
I'm gonna print this off! Great wisdom!! Sounds like a great experience to have Elder Nelson there :)
Thank you for writing this!
