It took us an hour and a half by bus to go from Yokota through Tokyo to our hotel. We fell in love with the city instantly, it was amazing and overwhelmingly big and we had never seen anything like it before in our lives.
On that note....I didn't take pictures of the ride...I just enjoyed it and then here we are in out hotel. It is a hotel for Active Duty Military and this place had amazing service. They didn't let us lift our own luggage and when we took one sip of our drinks in the restaurant they were waiting to fill our cups again.
Our first stop was the Tokyo City Temple. It was a 10 minute walk from our hotel. It is built up and it it beautiful.
We haven't been to a Temple in a long time so this was exciting to us!
We were ready for some lunch and we saw this sign and thought it sounded good. Ha ha. We honestly had no idea what they served but we ventured in and we scored. It was delicious.
They have warm wash cloths to clean your hands before eating at most establishments. The server didn't speak any English and since we don't speak Japanese we did a lot of pointing and gesturing but we figured it out. We also learned that it is not polite to leave a tip in Japan. Ooops.
All three of us almost got run over by a bike at least 7 times a day. So many people ride bikes here and they are silent and come up right behind you.
We took a city bus to Shibuya in the late afternoon and these kids were heading home from school. Aren't they dressed so nicely?
We walked A LOT and we finally made it to Shibuya Crossing which is the busiest intersection crossing in the world.
On our way we spotted some Summo wrestlers walking by and they were BIG boys compared to everyone else we'd seen all day. People in Tokyo are all very slender and average height.
I enjoyed watching these crowd of boys dancing outside and they were really quite good.
Long story short....Tyson disapeared for a bit....according to Lydia, I freaked out and then he came back with these two at his side. Elder Skywalker (Lucas Skywalker) and Elder Broadbear. It was fun to run into friendly faces in the busiest place in the world. Elder Skywalker is from Brazil and Elder Broadbear from Price, Utah. He told us his Uncle lives on Guam and turns out he is one of our friends and member of the Bishopric in our ward. Get out!
We said goodbye and then went and crossed the street. Lydia sat on Tyson's shoulders and took my picture.
Then we crossed it again...and again.
I went inside to get warm and Lydia and Tyson crossed it while I took pictures from above. Watch for her yellow hat and pink coat and you won't miss her.
Do you spot her? The pictures really don't even do this place justice. It was insane.
We did some more walking and took a few more trains to another part of Tokyo and I honestly don't even know where we were.....ha ha.
It was beautiful as the sun went down and city started to light up.
Some people suggested we eat at the Robot Restaurant and amazingly enough Tyson took us right to it. We thought it was a place you eat and robots serve you food. Ha ha. But it turned out to be a show and it cost a lot of money and we weren't sure if it was kid appropriate or Goodrich appropriate so we passed.
We had also heard about a Cat Cafe....we laughed and said we wouldn't go find it but we did and it was pretty awesome. It turns out they have a few of them and some of them don't allow children in but this one did. We paid and were able to stay for a while....drink some hot chocolate and play with cats.
It was quiet and nice after being in a crazy over stimulating place all day long.
This was our favorite cat. Doesn't he look foreign? We couldn't help but play with him the most.
And take pictures of him.....and with him.
Lydia was starving by the time we found our way back to our hotel on the subway and we spotted a McDonalds and we walked right in and attempted to order.
Tokyo has chocolate french fries....we joked about getting them...just like we joked about going to the Cat Cafe and somehow we ended up with these too. We need to stop joking. But like that's going to happen.
