Our ship supplied us with transportation to get into Sihanoukville, we rode on big grey hound buses and right outside the window driving next to us were loads of little taxi trucks trying to advertise services for the day. We were bombarded when we got off the bus and we quickly run into the market place across the street.
You better believe we bought these little banana's. We love them.
This market was fascinating. So many products....and so much of everything.
This little lady was hiding and eating in her fabric shop.
The shops were all crammed next to each other and they went on and on. We could have easily gotten lost in here.
We passed by some men hard at work making jewelry.
We bought our little foster son a pair of imitation Nike shoes.
Also mingled in with all the shops were lots of restaurants. The people sit up at the bar and enjoy a meal together.
This lady looked a little sad and I told Lydia to go and stand near her for a picture and Lydia crawled right in her station and the lady smiled from ear to ear.
I haven't a clue what half of this stuff even is. I needed a market tour guide.
People everywhere were wanting to make Tyson a custom suit. It takes about 3 days and we were never in the same place that long.
This was my favorite shop. Ha ha. Isn't it great! Hoarder status right here.
Bought some more banana's here and they kept us fed for the day.
So as we wandered the market......behind us was one of those taxi men drivers. He knew we'd want to go out and see the sights and he wanted our business. He followed us around for a long time....it was cracking us up and it worked because we figured we had to choose him, poor guy had endure watching us in the market.
He took us to all the hot spots in Sihanoukville.
This was his make shift taxi truck, different from a Tuk Tuk and a Jeepney. But I'm not sure what its called. We once again lucked out with a good guy who made our day really great.
No seat belts. We had to hold on tight.
Some of the side rodes looked like this.
Our driver was taking a picture of Tyson taking our picture. Ha ha.
This place is called Wat Krom, it had a temple. sacred ruins and other religious displays.
We got to observe some Monks leading some prayers and chants.
We had to take our shoes off before entering and we heard that the children will snag your shoes and make you pay them to get them back. Ha ha.
This little one was determined to sell us bracelets and postcards. She would win salesperson of month---every month if they had one.
We peeked into the kitchen where they Monks eat and some other facilities where they do their training.
This is the dining hall.
The little shrines/ temples were small enough for dolls.
Our driver took us to a few popular beaches and since we weren't in need of relaxing at the beach we just wandered instead.
Restrooms.
We walked until we were approached by 3 young adult girls who offered massages for $5. We jumped at the chance to sit and enjoy the view while getting massaged.
The massage turned into getting our legs shaved with string. You read that right. String. Ouch. It hurt but it works. They did Lydia's legs too. Her first time ever shaving her legs. Poor thing. She endured it well.
We also go pedicures and Lydia even got her hair done. It was an experience to remember. We felt a little bit like we were in the scene in Emerald city getting the full works make over.
We could see our ship off in the distance.
We saw our first wild monkeys.
We were pretty stoked about that.
We stopped at a fancy hotel to order some drinks and use their wifi. We checked in with our families and let them know we were alive and well.
And we called our Johne Boy. He was recovering from surgery in Hawaii and we wanted to Face time and give him encouragement as much as we could.
We loved our day here. It was like stepping into a new world. No, we didn't taste Durian....but we could smell the stuff from a mile away. Maybe next time.
Next stop: Bangkok, Thailand
