Jungle Shoot & disappointment

Our surf coach told us about an audition for an upcoming Japanese commercial and when I asked Lydia if she was interested she had stars in her eyes.

We needed a recent photo so we walked down the street to the jungle one afternoon and snapped a few photos. She was in a spunky mood and it was a lot of fun....lots of hair flipping was happening.

We went to the audition along with the Garcia's, they have 5 daughters and it was honestly pretty hilarious, I loved every minute of it. First they had each girl pick up flowers and put them in a basket. Then they had to hand one to the camera man and smile into the camera. Following that they had to fall backwards on a mat and say, "I'm tired." And to finish things off the girls sat on a couch and ate some of the product. They were supposed to ham it up and make yummy noises, interact with each other and pretend like they were having a fun time.

Kate was hysterical. We were watching and she had her hand in her bag and was munching away on her corn chips like nobody's business. Sophie on the other hand didn't care of the chips and I caught this photo. We couldn't stop laughing. No way was she going to eat those. Ha ha.

A close up.

Our Japanese commercial experience ended here. A few days later I heard nothing and Lisa did. She got a phone call and when I didn't, I knew Lydia wasn't chosen for the part. They chose two girls and two boys.

I had a good talk with Lydia after school on her bed. She had some tears and I told her that it's ok to feel disappointed. It just stinks. I told her that I have tried out for things in my life that I haven't gotten. She is always comforted by knowing that I have gone through similar things.

I let her be and she was only sad for a bit. We also talked about how we need to be excited for our friends that did get chosen. It is a great opportunity for them and she decided to be happy for them and I was grateful for that.

I am so glad that Emma and Isabel got to be in it. They had a lot of fun doing it and had some good stories for us.
