Oak Mountain State Park

We went on evening walks during our first week. One Sunday evening I brought the camera along to capture some of the beauty.

Our favorite thing was after the sun went down the fireflies (or lightning bugs) would come out in the trees. The first time Lydia saw them it was such a magical moment. It wasn't anything I could capture in the dark but it was a precious childhood experience that Tyson and I both loved witnessing.

She was brave and quick and could catch the fireflies. Yes, we are awful and we showed her how to smash one and then see the remains light up her hands.

A week or so later we moved into our extended stay hotel (which allowed pets) and it was down the street from Oak Mountain State park. We went and explored a couple of times. On this day we stopped by this little farm.

We gave the Alabama Wildlife center two thumbs down. Nothing really to see but a few birds, at least on the day we popped in.

We drove up the mountain as far as we could to see what we could see and what did we see. You guessed it? Trees, tree and more trees.

I ask Tyson to pull over when I see beautiful scenery that I want to shoot. This stream was one of those times.

We did find two lakes but we weren't prepared to swim. We will have to make some friends and then go back someday.

The sign pointed us to the beach. No, no, nothing like Guam but I was still happy to see a little big of sand and a place for us to swim.

I am looking forward to the weather warming up so we can make plans to go back.
