Our island anticipated Fest Pac for months on end. We didn't really know what would entail until the closer it got. Twenty Seven Pacific islands gathered together on Guam to celebrate their cultures. The groups of people were called delegates and some flew here and others traveled for days by boat to our island. The girls and I went on the first night of performances not really knowing what to expect and this was the first group we saw.
They are from the island Yap.
Lydia and Mason were wide eyed and embarrassed at first. I told them to look at the beautiful costumes and smiles of the performers. I was laughing at them on the inside. It was so awkward for them.
It was so entertaining and I have never seen anything like it. We sat in the hot sun and didn't even notice the heat too much.
American Samoa was next. Lydia was pleased that they were much more modest than the first group.
They were all super talented singers and dancers and what I noticed the most is how happy they were up on stage.
We wandered some shops and went to the stadium to watch a fashion show. It was far away and hard to see but we still learned a lot in the short time we stayed.
This is the new Guam Museum, it really is lovely and a nice addition to our island. It was a great night to kick off Fest Pac and I couldn't wait to bring Johne and Tyson later in the week.
